I feel the need, the need for Sunnies!

I’ll be honest, as an (ex) English teacher, they had me from the get go. I love a pun and while ‘Babiators’ from ‘Aviators’ might not be the neatest or smartest, coupled with the logo of a sunnies wearing baby head with the Top Gun wings – well, I wanted to buy some from the moment I stumbled across the brand on Instagram.

It’s taken a good few months, the fact it was Christmas and the lucky coincidence of Abe pulling the arm off his last pair of sunnies for me to get the (I-should-probably-cut-it-up-given-my-current-income) Visa out and select a pair to purchase. Particularly because sunglasses on Abe usually last about thirty seconds before he decides he’d rather whinge about how it’s too sunny in his part of the car than do anything to sort out that problem.
Knowing my son and his reluctance to wear anything new or stylish, I made sure he had a look at all the models and the colours online first, before choosing which pair we’d ask Santa for. He opted for the Navigators model in Blue Crush, size 3-5 years. A win on the style front in my opinion as the Original Babiators do look a bit, well, babyish. As the Originals wrap around they’re probably a little too close to the eyes for Abe who is still not quite down with wearing sunglasses (or hats, or shoes, or half the time, pants) so that was a double win.
I did try to sway him to a more unisex colour – like the Sublime Lime, or the Black Ops Black, because hey, hand me downs. But the blue is pretty cool and I do like blue on girls too. I’m just conscious my girl might well be a strictly pink/purple kinda lass, as half the 3-5 year old girls I know are and blue may therefore be a harder sell than black or green could be. If of course, they last that long.
Though, they’re supposed to. The pictures on the website show them bending in all kind of ways and they even come with a 12-month loss or broken guarantee. Given we were in the market for a pair as he killed his others, this was another feature that made me keen to get him a pair of this brand in particular. At $33.95 a pair (& postage) they’re not cheap, but so far, as well as looking pretty cool and having survived being stuffed in the nappy bag, thrown onto the floor several times and stepped on by the dog, I’ve not regretted the purchase. Just my timing – had I waited three days to order, I’d have been able to get free shipping.
Grrr. Don’t you just hate that!
